Dozens of golfers braved the torrential downpours Friday morning at Ironwood Golf Course in Sussex to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as well as the Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin.

Sponsored by Action Coach of Elm Grove, August 17 started out soggy with flash flooding around Southeastern Wisconsin.

Our team coaxed and prompted smiles and laughter, despite the overcast and drizzle. We photographed each foursome and sent them on their way with smiles and well-wishes.

More than two inches of rain had portions of the course underwater, so golfers had a one-hour delay and focused on only 9 instead of the original 18-holes planned. But the reduction in golf didn’t damper spirits, and each group stopped for a quick and photo, a John Daly and can koozie at Hole 4, sponsored by Rogue Wave Marketing.

Smiles, sportsmanship and laughter prevailed. So did the sun – just as everyone was wrapping up and golfers enjoyed the silent auction.

Thank you to Todd Ruedt of Action Coach, the Ironwood staff, volunteers and participants, for a successful outing!
